Jeffrey Feltman, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Near Eastern Affairs has reiterated his country’s stance that any dialogue held by the U.S with Syria will not be at the expense of Lebanon, the Pan Arab Al-Hayat newspaper reported Tuesday.

A U.S State Department official commended the new Lebanese government exercising its legitimate authority over all Lebanese territory, noting that the U.S. administration is committed to partnership with President Michel Sleiman to strengthen the Lebanese state institutions and enhance stability in the region.

The Syrian arrest warrants are Judicial, but PM Saad Hariri’s visit to Syria is political. The warrants will not affect the visit, but without doubt affect the warmness of the visit. Syrian officials are aware of this, and Lebanese figures as well but perhaps Syrian officials intended this.
