The political editor wrote: one of the extremist Lebanese leftists wrote one day: “how wonderful to be in power”, and he meant the censorship practiced by Jamil Sayyed on all works of literary, films and politics in Lebanon when he was head of general security in the country. Sayyed practiced all types of censorship and security, political and journalistic fabrication and adopted a “James Bond” aggressive character, summing up all the poles of the security services in his person.

Sayyed represented a scarecrow to Speaker Nabih Berri during the hardships, played by regional forces to reach the parliament presidency. Sayyed was in feud with the press and intellectuals, and wanted press to be a “mouthpiece” for his news leakage, and several journalists accepted to perform this role, as they have been told, and some of them still practices this role till this moment and could not get out of the “Jamil sayyedian” journalistic style.

Jamil Sayyed came out of the limelight and entered “professional spinsterhood”, and apparently he does not appreciate being out of power, and considers himself the first victim of the Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon, after he was one of the Lords of Anjar. Sayyed seems tensed and nervous, trying to dig into the files of others from Paris to Damascus to avenge the imprisonment of four years.

Jamil Sayyed cannot believe that he is out of power and authority. He cannot believe that he is not able to give orders anymore, and cannot exploit his position to provide his personal interests and appoint those he wants while oppressing others. He cannot believe that he became unable to practice a new “7 August”, even though his allies practiced a worse version on May 7, and that the Aounist movement became satisfied with August 7.

Jamil Sayyed who was welcomed by some Lebanese political forces after being released from prison as a “hero”, and television networks turned into Hide Park for Sayyed’s insults and malice. Politicians and figures exaggerated in extolling Sayyed, describing him as “the living martyr”. Today, and after the folkloric reception and the honoring speeches, Jamil seems to be forgotten.

Some journalists try to polish his presence from time to time in the media over a certain statement, but overall, Jamil seems to be “struggling” in the search for a role as he was promised by those who turned him into a “cause” but suddenly found himself in illusion, or just a former employee of General Security.

The Lawsuit filed by Jamil Sayyed against some political, judicial and security figures to the “Syrian Judiciary” shows his grudge and behavior, as if applying a proverb that says: “the victim is satisfied but the killer isn’t”.

Sayyed himself has a long history in infringe, he reopened the issue of journalist Samir Kassir’s nationality because he disagreed with his opinion, and revived a silly case against poet Paul Shaoul back to the days of the seventies.

Jamil Sayyed was a flagrant example of exploiting the Syrian presence in Lebanon for his personal narrow interests, and was a member in the choir of those seeking for their interests. Perhaps people who suffered from Jamil Sayyed should file a lawsuit against him.

Jamil Sayyed is aware that his release does not mean innocence from assassinations that took place in Lebanon.

Jamil Sayyed tells himself: “How wonderful to be in power” but…
